daily life aspects
The small streets perpendicular to the sea, the vast golden sandy beach and the imposing promontory transform Nazaré into a very special place. The seashore reminds the past days when the boats laid near the ocean and the pulling nets made the faces of the people become alive with hope and joy. From those old days remained the custom of sun-drying the fish, aligned in the “paneiros”, sardines and horse-mackerel, which are put to dry by women in typical costumes.
Nazaré traditional clothes, still in use. Women wear seven skirts

D.Fuas Legend
Right on the top of the promontory: The "Ermida da Memória" connected to D. Fuas Roupinho legend, very well known in Portugal
The legend tells that the Alcalde of Porto de Mós’ Castle, who was hunting a deer in a foggy morning, in September 1182, found himself on the edge of the precipice and, seeing the danger, pledged for the Virgin’s help. The horse stopped frozen in the air, saving the nobleman’s life. In thanksgiving D. Fuas Roupinho built the Memory Chapel, near the miracle point.
